Meet Fiaweavers, a boutique weaving studio that specializes in handwoven textiles! We take pride in creating unique, high-quality products that showcase the beauty and artistry of weaving. Fiaweavers is a female owned brand that not only promotes the traditional craft of hand weaving but also provides economic empowerment to the women of Pakistan.
The brand was initially launched in 2003 by Fariha Yaldarum Haider (now Fariha Y. Younas) after graduating from The Indus Valley School, in Pakistan. The brand is now relaunched after a brief pause of 10 years due to the shift in priorities and focus on family.
The use of handloom in the Indian sub-continent dates back to the Indus Valley Civilization, over 5000 years ago. Since then, many civilizations continued to enhance and create the weaving techniques, the skill and art of weaving have passed on through generations.
Our weavers are skilled artisans. They tell stories through their work, weave with their individual sense of creativity, cultural heritage and family history. Most of them work on traditional pit looms, floor and flying shuttle looms.
The work of our artisans is not only a testament to their talent and dedication but also a celebration of the rich cultural heritage of Pakistan.
Kroakbragd, pronounced as “CROAK-BROD” or “CROAKBROG”, a unique and one of its kind techniques like its name. A Norwegian weft-faced weaving technique which is quite magical to see. These are bold colorful patterns with three simple steps.
In Pakistan, the art of wood block printing has passed from generation to generation. Block printing uses solid material to print ink on to fabric. The block printing process involves a wooden block engraved with designs and patterns, inking the design, and stamping the inked block on the fabric. The resulting design will mirror the one on the wooden block.
Pit loom is setup in the ground with 4 cement posts with an overhand slay to operate the loom. It’s also called fly shuttle loom and due to its size and permanent setup, it produces more fabric than any floor loom. They are settled in the floor so that the yarn can get moisture and textured fabric is produced.
The floor looms are used to develop woven samples, test patterns with new designs and to learn new techniques. It’s also used for producing smaller batches.
Jacquard is a pit loom that comes with a device which attached on top of a pit loom. The devices lift the warp threads in a certain pattern to create woven design fabrics. It’s controlled by jacquard punch cards, laced together in a series. These jacquard punch cards produce design like floral, geometric and several other design patterns.
